Poker Table Selection for Beginners
You may have heard that table selection is an important element in successful poker play. However, if you.ve never done it before, it.s hard to know what exactly to look for when choosing a table.
Here are a few simple considerations to keep in mind when choosing a table for your next Texas holdem game.
Look for Action at the Poker Table
A table with a lot of loose action is often a good one to sit in, provided you have the bankroll for it. Your goal in these games is not to mix it up with the maniacs. In a game like this, you.ll want to play tight, controlled poker, wait for premium hands and let your opponents bet into you when you hit them. You may lose a pot or two, but then again, there.s no free poker.
Look for Inaction at the Poker Table
If you.re a very aggressive player, you may want to sit at a table with little pre-flop raising and few all-ins. You may be able to take control of such a table and win more than your share of pots.
There are just a couple of problems with this approach. First, it is very difficult to win large sums of money from tight players. Second, once the players realize what you are up to they may gang up on you. Of course, at that point you can always change tables.
Look for Weak Spots at the Poker Table
In reality, at the top poker sites, there will rarely be a table that is all maniacs or all rocks. You should be looking for particular players with styles that are so extreme or so obvious that you can confidently outplay them on a regular basis.
You will have to play everyone at the table where you sit, but if you can target the one or two weak spots, you can give yourself an edge.
